C'ville Entremom

I have loved getting to know all of the C’Ville Entremoms that I have met throughout the last couple of months.  It has been great to have a network of smart and motivated ladies with whom to share ideas and resources.  When I 1st began C’Ville Entremom, I called on the women and mommies of Charlottesville to help me find mom entrepreneurs within our community.  Through this search, I came across a great group of Moms that represent national lines and wanted to find the best way to include them in our group.  Then, it came to me…  RepMoms!  They are entrepreneurs like the rest of us.. out there building a business and working hard while independently representing reputable companies that offer great products.  You may recognize some of the names:  Pampered Chef, Mary Kay or Tastefully Simple..  September is officially RepMom month, so get out your calendars, plan a party date, invite all of your friends and buy some national products locally and support your local RepMom.

I thought I would start with Mary Kay..  To me, she is THE ENTREMOM.  She started Mary Kay, Inc. in 1963 after 25 years of direct selling for other companies.  Her vision was to “provide women with an unparalleled opportunity for financial independence, career and personal fulfillment.  To achieve total customer satisfaction by delivering the products and services that enhance a woman’s self-image and confidence.”  She faced many hardships along the way (including the death of her husband 1 month before Mary Kay launched) and continually modified her business strategy with the changing trends of women in the workplace.  Today, Mary Kay, Inc. has over 500,000 employees in 29 countries.

Kephany Powell is a Mary Kay RepMom located in Crozet.  She started up her Mary Kay business in February 2008.  Kephany grew up with a love for beauty products and worked in “beauty retail” for 5 years, but wanted to be able to spend more time with her son, Matthew, 8.  Kephany says that Mary Kay was a great choice for her because it is a reputable company with a strong foundation and because of her love for skin care and beauty products.

Some of Kephany’s best sellers are:

TimeWise Miracle Set – Includes and 3-in-1 cleanser (cleanses, tones and gently exfoliates), day solution (with SPF 25), night solution and a moisturizer.. that all fight the signs of aging.

Microderm Abrasion Set – Deep cleans and exfoliates dead skin cells.

Satin Hands Set – Includes hand crème, cleansing/exfoliating gel and extra emollient night cream to make hands feel like baby skin (It’s true.. I love this stuff!!)

Kephany also states that she can hardly keep the mineral powder foundation in stock!

Kephany does most of her sales through home parties.  She strives to have at least 1 party a week.  Friends or acquaintances host the parties for her and new parties are generated from their guests.  Kephany says that the greatest thing about hosting a party is that there is no work involved (except for inviting 3-6 friends).  It’s all about having fun friends over who enjoy girl time and pampering themselves a bit.  Kephany offers 3 different parties:  Skin Care, Color or Fragrance.  The hostess earns free Mary Kay products, depending on the amount of sales her party generates (plus she loves giving away free gifts)!
